Kids and cops spread holiday cheer in annual Shop With a Cop event

Families, children, and law enforcement personnel came together for the yearly “Shop With a Cop” event, a beloved custom that promotes community bonds and festive spirit. A total of 50 youngsters from the 4J and Bethel School Districts took part. Children between the ages of 5 and 13 were matched with officers for a memorable holiday shopping outing.

Each participant received 200 dollars, provided by the Eugene Police Foundation and supported by local businesses, to purchase gifts. This year, over 85 volunteers, including 66 uniformed officers from EPD, LCSO, Oregon State Police, and the University of Oregon Police, were involved.

As stated by the organizers, the event serves as an opportunity to alter perceptions and foster positive relationships between police officers and the community.
